An installer will measure rooms, check insulation and windows, and look at the electrical panel to see whether it has space for a new circuit. In a converted cottage or prewar house, expect a discussion about where heads can mount, how the line set will run, and whether one outdoor unit can serve several rooms.
Outside, a careful installer considers flood level, snow, and salt exposure. Wall brackets or raised stands keep the unit clear of drifts and standing water, and coastal-rated finishes help near the shore.
Most mini-split installs need an electrical permit from Scituate's Building/Inspections Department, which takes applications online only. Inspections are requested through the same portal, and the contractor usually handles both.
