Heating And Cooling Help, Town By Town
Heating and cooling rules aren't identical across the South Shore. Each town has its own building department, its own fire department procedures for oil burners and tanks, and its own mix of gas and electric companies. The town guides gather those details so you know what to expect before a contractor arrives.
Choose your town to see the local permit office, utility providers, and housing facts that affect HVAC work, then call or send a request to be connected with an independent contractor who serves that town. If yours isn't listed yet, reach out anyway from any nearby community.
All eight towns get electricity from National Grid or Eversource, and both are Mass Save sponsors. Nearby Braintree and Hingham are served by municipal light plants instead, so homeowners there should ask their light department what efficiency help is offered.

Which South Shore towns have HVAC guides?
Guides are live for Brockton, Quincy, Plymouth, Weymouth, Randolph, Stoughton, Bridgewater, and Hanover. More towns are added over time.
What if my town isn't on the list?
Call or send a request anyway, and we'll try to connect you with an independent contractor who works in your area.
Do permit rules differ between towns?
Yes. Most towns take applications online, but details vary: Bridgewater requires a permit card before work starts, and Plymouth's fire department sets its own lead time for oil burner inspections. Your contractor should know the local process.
Who provides gas service in my town?
National Grid's Boston Gas serves Quincy and Weymouth, and Eversource serves the other six towns covered here. The state's utility finder on mass.gov lists the provider for every community.
